Hybrid Microgrid at Al Bisha southern province
Energia has partnered with one of the largest construction companies to deploy a hybrid
microgrid solution at the Al Bisha site, where the largest global construction company is
developing a 3 GW solar power project.
The site, remote and off-grid, currently runs entirely on diesel generator power to support
technician camps and site office infrastructure. Continuous 24×7 DG operation has pushed diesel
costs to approximately SAR 40,000 per month.
To address this, Energia proposed a pilot hybrid microgrid on a 24-month rental model,
integrating an existing 250 kVA diesel generator with an 85 kWp foldable solar PV system and a
100 kW / 233 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
Current site data shows average power demand around 80 kW, with peak loads near 130 kW, a load
profile expected to grow as construction progresses. The system is designed to generate
approximately 120 to 130 MWh of solar energy annually, projecting diesel fuel savings of %16 to
%25 depending on load and solar conditions.
Beyond cost reduction, the hybrid system improves operational efficiency and reduces carbon
emissions on-site, marking a meaningful step toward sustainable construction practices on
large-scale renewable energy projects, and proving out the viability of hybrid microgrids in
remote, off-grid environments.

Looking Ahead
As Energia continues to expand its footprint across power, cooling, renewables, and structures,
projects like Al Bisha show what is possible when turnkey thinking meets remote-site realities.
Stay tuned for more from the field next month.
